Extended policy statement on cookies

WHAT ARE COOKIES?

Cookies are small text files that websites visited by users send to their terminals, where they are stored to be retransmitted to the same websites on subsequent visits. Cookies are used for different purposes, have different characteristics, and can be used both by the data controller of the site you are visiting and by third parties.

TYPES OF COOKIES

There are two families of cookies:

- Cookies installed by the website owner or manager, called first-party cookies;

- Cookies installed by managers external to the website, called third-party cookies.

The responsibility and management of first-party cookies is assumed directly by the data controller of this site, De Agostini UK LTD with registered office C/O Royds Withy King Llp, 69 Carter Lane, London, England, EC4V 5EQ (the “Data Controller”), and is governed by that company's privacy policy: for all information required under Article 13 of the GDPR, please click here[AM1] .

The responsibility and management of third-party cookies instead lies with their respective owners and managers, which are required to offer adequate refusal mechanisms in their privacy policy statements.

On this website, six different types of cookies may be present:

1. Technical, session and analytical cookies (Generic)

These cookies are required for the website to function properly, allowing the website login to be managed, configuration preferences to be recorded where available and plug-ins required to view certain content to be integrated.

Cookies used for statistical and performance analysis are also considered technical cookies, as long as they are configured to collect data in an aggregate and anonymous form that offers a general picture of what is happening on the websites and their contents.

2. Cookies for analysing traffic and services (Tracking)

These cookies provide information on how visitors use a website, what content they access and which geographic regions they come from, in order to assess and enhance the functioning of the site and favour the production of content that best meets the information needs of users. These cookies are subject to users’ consent and refusal can be expressed directly to the respective managers.

3. Profiling cookies for marketing and advertising (Advertisement)

These cookies are used to deliver advertising content within a website or application. They are used, for example, to track the position of adverts and to check whether a user has seen the advertising message, and to follow users as they navigate, in order to define their profiles and show advertisements related to their personal interests and socio-demographic characteristics.

WHAT COOKIES ARE INSTALLED ON THIS WEBSITE?

The Data Controller tries to limit the use of cookies to what is strictly necessary to offer you the services of this website and its other websites and products. Specifically, we have the cookies described below.

1. COOKIES NOT SUBJECT TO CONSENT

Technical cookies

deait_user_logged: used to manage user nicknames

has_js: used to manage javascript

SESS_ID: used for the user session

comment_info_ID: used for comment validation

force_no_mobile: used to manage access to the mobile version of the website

None of the technical cookies require consent and are therefore automatically installed when the site is accessed.

Google Analytics statistical cookies

__utma: Tracks how many times a visitor accesses the website, and when the first and last visits take place. Google Analytics uses this cookie to calculate, for example, the number of days and logins it takes for users to complete an order after their first access

__utmb, __utmc: These two cookies work together and serve to calculate the length of website visits. The _utmb cookie tracks the exact time when a user enters the site, while the _utmc cookie tracks the exact time when a user leaves the site

__utmt: Allows Google Analytics to adapt its servers to a large amount of data, without an overload of requests

__utmz: Tracks users’ geographical origin, which search engine they used and which keyword they searched for to access the site

__utmt, __utmt_area: Performance

The Google Analytics cookies installed by this website are anonymised. They therefore do not profile users and do not request consent and so are installed automatically following access to the site.

This website uses Google Analytics solely for statistical purposes.

The cookies in question collect information in aggregate form in order to monitor and analyse access to the pages of the site.

The information generated from cookies on use of the website are communicated to Google Inc.

For more details and to disable saving, please visit the website at https://policies.google.com/privacy

2. COOKIES SUBJECT TO CONSENT

Cookies are also installed on this website that are managed by third parties subject to consent. Below you will find some instructions and a link to the privacy policy and the consent form for each of them. You can give consent in a simplified way using the procedures shown in the information banner you saw when you first accessed this site, or selectively by using our consent management tool.

Facebook

We also use other technologies on our site, which allow us and third-party service providers to offer you a more personalised and engaging internet experience, for example by showing you advertisements that are more relevant to you on your social media channels, or by allowing you to share your experiences on our website via social media. We therefore use the following technologies:

- Facebook pixels. Facebook pixels are small fragments of software, almost invisible “points” the size of a pixel on our site, which create a link between your visit to our site and Facebook. When the pixel is loading, Facebook installs a “fr” cookie on its computer, which helps Facebook to show more personalised advertising and to measure and improve the advertising. This cookie has a lifespan of 90 days. More information on Facebook cookies is provided here: https://www.facebook.com/policies/cookies/. Consider that, when the “fr” is installed, Facebook can track your navigation behaviour across other websites that have applied a Facebook pixel or a Facebook social plug-in.

Social network cookies

These cookies are used to share content on social networks.

Below you will find the names of the third parties that manage them, and a link to the page for each one, where you can find information on processing and give your consent:

YouTube: http://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/faq/#toc-cookies(Google's standard terms)

DURATION OF PROCESSING

The cookies managed by the Data Controller have a maximum lifespan of 365 days, unless they are voluntarily revived by you repeating consent.

The profiling cookies managed by the Data Controller are anonymous and, once expired, remain within the statistical systems and profiling platforms in aggregate form and not traceable to your browser, exclusively for general statistical purposes.

The cookies managed by third parties have the lifespans indicated in the respective cookie policies.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON EXERCISING YOUR RIGHTS

To request information or clarification or to exercise your rights, please use the following email address: deapublishing-pcy.officer@deagostini.co.uk

You are also always entitled to make a complaint to the Personal Data Protection Authority.

MANAGING PREFERENCES THROUGH YOUR BROWSER

Remember that you can also manage your cookie preferences through your browser.

If you do not know the type and version of browser you use, click on “Help” in the browser window at the top, where you can access all the necessary information.

Use of LSO (local shared object) or flash cookies:

Flash cookies operate differently from browser cookies, and the cookie management tools available in your browser may not be enough to remove them. To find out more about flash cookies and how to manage them, visit: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager.html
